This building stores 2 tons of organic vegetables for winter markets. The straw bale walls and shutters keep the heat out. Three different cold rooms offer just the right temperature and humidity. A small tractor can unload in the central room where vegetables are washed and sorted. The workshop is the only room where sunlight is always welcome.

The materials are natural and local. The straw bale walls plaster is hydrated lime on the exterior and clay on the interior. The ceiling is clay plaster over lath. Light straw clay insulates between the cold rooms. The attic insulation is recycled denim batt. A green roof of native plants tops it all off.
